Ways to Love and Help Vulnerable Kids/Families – Rebekah Weigel (CarePortal)

CarePortal presentation w/Rebekah Weigel (video)

Hey TD!

Here’s the video of V4V Friday’s presentation on how we can start getting involved in being the hands and feet of the Lord by helping vulnerable children and families in our communities.  It’s practical, doable, and impactful, and will allow us to further fulfill our calling and mandate to help the vulnerable in Jesus’ Name!  It can be done by any fellowship group, small group, or group of friends.

Rebekah Weigel has a strong passion to see the Church return to the front of child welfare, and has been working to educate and mobilize churches in LA County to care for vulnerable children and families.

She also works with her husband, Josh, in the entertainment industry as a producer and writer.  They have been married 23 years and have fostered and adopted 3 of their 6 children.

CarePortal (a platform of The Global Orphan Project) is a technology platform that connects vulnerable children and families to people who have something to give. Social workers uncover the needs. CarePortal makes local churches aware, giving them a real-time opportunity to respond.

Ember Ngur’s Powerful Testimony and Q&A (mp3)

Ember’s Testimony/Q&A (mp3)

Hey TD!

Wow, what a powerful and moving V4V weekend that was for those who participated.  God was in our midst stirring our hearts and challenging the way we live our lives. One highlight was Ember Ngur’s sharing and Q&A at the Hsiehs’ home on Saturday.

Ember Ngur’s Testimony/Q&A

0:00 – 15:12  Ember’s Story

Q&A

15:39 – What happens to kids after doing foster therapy?

16:35 – How did you get involved with CarePortal?

17:45 – Are there qualifications for fostering? What are they?

18:37 – Why did you move to CA?

*19:35 – Where there times when you didn’t want to love someone? How did you overcome it? Did you have any kids that were hard to love?

*23:06 – What kind of person was your father like? The kind of person who can listen to God’s plan and do everything. What did you do after?

27:38 – What are your siblings doing?

30:00 – Did you have a community to support your family in fostering?

30:54 – Did all your siblings respond well for taking in foster children?

31:50 – Fostering is supposed to help kids. Why are the statistics so bad with respect to the kids who have gone through foster care?

*33:21 – What would you say to a youth group like ours – suburban, middle class, cautious, achievement oriented, etc.? Any “kick-in-the-pants” charge or encouragement for us?

39:00 – Do you have any amazing stories of transformation where the kids completely turned their lives around?

41:33 – How did you guys approach the kids that faced a lot of trauma and weren’t really connected with society?

*43:31 – “Comfortable” is our church’s middle name. Can you just give us what you really want to say – what the Lord wants you to tell us, without worrying about offending us. In other words, preach it, Sista!

46:10 – With the last young man you mentioned, how did he do after leaving home after a year? Do children know that they just have to go? Or does it cause more feelings of loss after being in a beautiful home and then having to leave?

48:58 – How did differences in culture (Nigerian/American) affect how your family fostered?

52:03 – The stats on fostering (racially)

*54:34 – Ember leads a powerful and stirring time of prayer and beseeching God on TD’s behalf, that God would spectacularly transform the members of TD into courageous Christ-followers and Christ-ambassadors.

* The entire Q&A is worth listening to, and these are particularly poignant.

Must See: A Calming Word from Joni During Coronavirus … and more!

A Calming Word from Joni During the Coronavirus

Hey TD!

It was great to “hangout” with you all during our first “Virtual TD” hangout last night. I particularly enjoyed the extra hour I got to personally spend with those who hung out for the post-TD discussion, almost half of you.

During this time of quarantine, we will be utilizing this blog more frequently to provide you encouraging, stimulating, and ENJOYable resources to strengthen and equip you to help turn this Coronavirus lemon into lemonade!

As Cassie shared last night, this is an opportunity for us put God back in His rightful place in our lives, and get our lives properly  realigned … because honestly, we’re all just too busy.  As I said last night, sure, the things we may be doing may be “good,” but good is the enemy of BEST.  Let’s use this to either get back to BEST practices or to learn BEST practices for living.

Please watch the VERY encouraging video above from our dear friend and hero, Joni Eareckson Tada, to begin the work of getting back to the right place in your heart and mind.

Looking forward to being with you all next Friday for our next Virtual TD meeting.

We’ll continue to work on making our time better, so if you have any suggestions, please let your small group leaders know!

In the meanwhile, here are a couple of fun V4V videos, one from V4V weekend and one from our visit with Joni in 2013 (the top V4V fund raisers).  You’ll see some current adults in their TD years (always a fun thing!):

Hey TD!

On Friday, AT THE GWC, from 7:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m., TD will host special guest, Rebekah Weigel of CarePortal (a platform of The Global Orphan Project), who will share how any fellowship group, small group, or group of friends can receive real-time opportunities to be the hands and feet of Jesus for hurting children and families in our community. Rebekah has a strong passion to see the Church return to the front of child welfare, and has been working to educate and mobilize churches in LA County to care for vulnerable children and families.  She also works with her husband Josh in the entertainment industry as a Producer and Writer. They have been married 23 years and have fostered and adopted 3 of their 6 children.

This meeting is for the whole congregation, so feel free to invite friends or family, if you’d like.

V4V – 140 Hrs. w/o Social Media Begins 10 p.m. Sunday Night!

Hey TD!

For some of you participating in V4V, the social media fast will be harder than not talking for 30 hours!  But it will be worth it, as you use the time to reflect and engage with God through your Pause devotionals that are inside your V4V packet.

The pause from social media will begin at 10 p.m. on Sunday and last through Saturday night at 6 p.m.  That’s when we’ll also begin speaking again, after going voiceless for 30 hours, beginning at noon on Friday, 3/6.

Beginning Monday, you and your fellow V4V participants in your small group will read each day’s devotional and then briefly reflect and discuss it each day via old fashioned email or google hangouts 🙂

Let your small group leader know if you have any questions!

Hey TD!

Here are the videos of our V4V presentation and song, “Is This What Love Looks Like?” that we did last week.  May they encourage you and remind us why we are doing what we’re doing.

TD Fri. – V4V Ministry Groups Night!

Big Sticker V4V

Hey TD!

We’ll need you at TD this Friday as we prepare for TD to be involved in sharing V4V with the English congregation at this Sunday’s service!  Like at Christmas time, we’ll be in our ministry groups preparing for Sunday.  And like at Christmas time, we’ll ENJOY ourselves and have a good time! We’ll also do some more V4V training and prepping.

If you weren’t able to be at TD last Friday for the primary V4V Vision Casting and Training, just let your small group leader know and they’ll give you the password to the training.  Once you complete it, we’ll get a V4V kit to you and you’ll be on your way!

Like the TD groups in the past, let’s kill this, TD, and let’s do our part to help bring children home!

Until every child has a home …

TD Fri. – Essential V4V Launch Meeting! (original video!)

The original 2010 V4V promo video (feat. TD alum)!

Hey TD,
I want to remind you that we have an ESSENTIAL meeting this Friday where we will have our Voiceless for the Voiceless (V4V) launch and training. I’ve given this date to you for a month, so please arrange your schedules accordingly.

PLEASE DO EVERYTHING IN YOUR POWER TO COME

We will cast vision, equip and train you, and give you your V4V kits.

As a fellowship, TD is attempting to do something very significant for orphaned children in Jesus’ Name – help give them families.  We will need all of us to lock in and give it our best effort to succeed.
In the meanwhile, enjoy the original V4V promo video with lots of current adults back in their TD days!  🙂
See you Friday !
