A Great Time at the SCC Solo Tour! What Next?

TD @ SCC Solo Tour Concert at The Wiltern – 4/12/19

SCC Concert at the Hsiehs’ for Show Hope

Hey TD!

What an amazing time together at the Steven Curtis Chapman Solo Tour at the Wiltern!  Thank you, Show Hope!  Our family is so glad you got to hear his heart, his story, his ministry, and his music (and his ridiculous guitar skills!).

As I always say, when you have a chance to be around greatness, seize it.  Though many of you had never heard of him (though he’s had over 50 #1 hits, has over 70 Dove Awards, 5 Grammy Awards, etc.), you were willing to see the big picture and be open to new experiences and opportunities. Many of you expressed how unexpectedly blessed you were.

As SCC was sharing about his family’s own adoption journey and the work at Show Hope, like many of you, I had tears in my eyes.  Helping kids that don’t have families is a work that God wants us, His church, to be involved in.  At TD, we have done that through Voiceless For the Voiceless (V4V), visiting the orphanage each month, serving at summer camps for orphans in China, and with our monthly sponsorships of 4 boys in Africa (through Rafiki) and 3 Show Hope sponsorships in China (many of you are behind in your pledges.  Please bring them up to date).

Religion that is pure and undefiled before God, the Father, is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world. – James 1:27

Please seriously pray through how God wants to use you to help reach kids without families.  It’s not whether He wants you to help (He does); rather, it’s how He wants you to help.  Please talk with your small group leaders to discuss the opportunities!

TD Fri. – LG Study & Orphans Update

Hey TD,

Continuing our “Are You Serious?” Summer studies, we will continue to dialogically explore passages of Scripture that give us serious truth that we often don’t take too seriously; truth that we acknowledge with our heads, but when push comes to shove, we don’t stand by with our lives.  Either Scripture doesn’t really mean it or we don’t; but someone isn’t really serious.

This week, we will explore “Marriage and Divorce” – both very common (too common) amongst Christians, our church included.  We will need to come open-handed and open-hearted, truthful yet sensitive, desiring to really see what the Lord’s intentions and directives are, willing to call a spade a spade, and resolving to live His way.  Once again, we will study in an open architecture, group study format.

Prior to our study, we will also hear and see the latest from all the orphaned children we are sponsoring in Africa and China.  We will also show some video footage taken last week of the girls with special needs we are sponsoring in China!  It’ll be a great time to get to know them better and pray for them!

See you Friday! – Arthur

TD SG Initiative – Helping Orphans!

Hey TD!

As promised, last Friday’s TD meeting was a special one. My big brother, Richard (above), came to share with us about a ministry to orphans in Africa that he is very involved with, Rafiki Foundation, in hopes of helping to give us an avenue to practice pure Christianity and to be doers of the Word, not merely hearers (James 1:22-27).

Then I shared about a ministry that my family has been getting increasingly involved with, a ministry to helping orphans find strong Christian families (particularly with deformities and disabilities in China – the unwanted ones), Show Hope.

James 1:27 confronts us this way, “Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.”  And TD will be responding!

The boys small groups will each be sponsoring an orphan boy in Africa through Rafiki, while the girls small groups will each be sponsoring an orphan girl in China through Show Hope!

We also encourage you to take this idea to your family so they may prayerfully consider sponsoring children too!  Check out the following web sites to get more familiar with the ministries:
