In Joy Podcast #4 – “True Freedom” (Sandra)

Hey TD!

In the midst of such historic times of social unrest, people of all colors have been protesting for the equality and freedom of those in black communities across the nation.  I sometimes wonder if everyone really knows the true nature and quality of that freedom that they are protesting for. It not only comes at a significant cost, but with a significant responsibility.

In this fourth installment of our In Joy podcasts, Sandra brings us to some of the history of this conflict through the lens of the Civil War and Abraham Lincoln, who was wrought with heaviness over a nation torn with racial strife over slavery.  It’s a timely podcast on the aspects of true freedom that aren’t often thought of … but need to be.

Listen, consider, and enjoy!

Hey TD!

Often, to do something really well means finding your rhythm. That is certainly true in sports, music, studying, … and living life itself.

Have you found yourself out of rhythm in life these last two months while doing school in your pajamas, no longer going to daily practices for extra curriculars, being barred from sports and public entertainment, being with your family SO MUCH, seeing your hair grow long and bushy, and doing church from your bed?

In this third installment of our In Joy Podcasts, Angela tries to help us treasure God and enjoy His gifts during ANY time in life, not just quarantine time, by pointing to  perspectives she calls direct and indirect “Godwardness” and helping us to develop a sustainable rhythm in how we approach life.

Listen and apply! You’ll be glad you did. Enjoy!

Hey TD,

This week, Arthur will continue his edible lesson with “Enjoying the Bread of Life, Pt. 2” as we continue to look at Christ, the Bread of Life, with fresh eyes, a fuller perspective, and with deeper appreciation.  We will continue to unpack the significance of the Lord’s Supper and what we’re really celebrating, as well as discover God not only as our Bread but as our Gardener.

To prep for Pt. 2, here’s the mp3 for Pt. 1 for your review:

Hey TD,

The Christian life isn’t merely about a lifestyle, but is about LIFE itself.  What does it really mean to live?  Please make plans to come to a very meaningful TD this Friday as we will explore Christ, the Bread of Life, and what it means to be a Christ-follower – not in terms of what we cognitively know, but in terms of experiencing, relating to, and living with and in what and Who we know.

See you Friday!

Want to Know What The Adoption Process and Journey Look Like?

“Welcoming Willa” video with the Veldkamp Family

Hey TD!

As we highlighted in TD on Friday, November is National Adoption Awareness Month.  Most of you raised your hands to commit to seriously praying about what God would have you do with respect to helping address the world’s orphan crisis.  I shared with you how God has used other teenagers within their own families to help change the lives of some orphans through adoption.

I don’t know what God has in mind for you with respect to the orphaned, but I do know that you are to be involved in helping the fatherless in some way, shape, or form.  As Mary Beth Chapman reminds, “Not everyone is called to adopt, but everyone is called to do something.”

So, we will be highlighting various aspects of adoption on our blog this month to help you get more familiar with the ideas, language, and culture of adoption.  From these posts and videos, and through your commitment to pray and then act as God leads, we look forward to seeing how God will work in you and through you.

“Not everyone is called to adopt, but everyone is called to do something.”

– Mary Beth Chapman

Today, we’ll be highlighting what the adoption process and journey look like … in 10 minutes … through the Veldkamp family!  Their journey was very similar to ours, as they used the same agency we did (Holt Int’l) and went through similar family prepping, paperwork, and logistics (both in the US and in China).  We even visited some of the same places and stayed in the same hotel!  And like us, they too adopted a treasure!

Enjoy and reach out to anyone in my family if you’d like to know more about the process!

– Arthur

Hey TD!

We’ve got an exciting Friday chock-full goodness planned.  In addition to taking a deeper dive together into “On Nakedness and Shame,” we’ll also be highlighting Offerings 9, making a difference in the lives of underprivileged children, Love Your Neighbor Night, and more!

To prep for Friday’s discussion, please listen to and/or review Daniel’s message below. It’s a vital topic for us to broach, here in TD in particular, if we’re going to make any progress in the way we experience God, life, others, etc. :

7:15 p.m. is our TD Pre-Party.  See you Friday!

TD Fri. – “On Nakedness and Shame”

Hey TD!

What do you ENJOY more, being naked or clothed? Is your enjoyment, with or without clothes, situation specific? Does it have to do with culture, convention, or the company you are around? What do clothes reveal about us and what do they hide? What does it mean when the Scripture says that Adam and Eve were naked and felt no shame? What changed after the Fall?

Come out to TD this Friday to explore the sensitive yet significant aspects of human nakedness and need. Daniel will be leading our study and helping us to understand why a clear understanding of nakedness and clothing are part of the foundations of joy and enjoying Grace.

Hey TD!

In this week’s posts, we’re looking within to try to see what God wants to clean up to replace with something better.  If you haven’t read the last post, My Messy House, please do so.

We’re excited to unveil the year’s first In Joy podcast, “Joy in the Un-Enjoyable”! Through mix of common sense and personal illustrations, Rebecca reminds us that God often works to give us joy through that which is not enjoyable, and shares how not to miss out on God’s gift of joy to us.

Give it a listen and then prayerfully resolve not to miss out on any more of the good that God has in store for you!
