For those of you who weren’t there, last summer we had a special night of “Offerings” to God – a dedication and presentation of gifts, which came in all shapes and sounds and sizes. It was unconventionally spectacular (or spectacularly unconventional), and – can you believe it – in less than 2 weeks (Feb. 27) we have the privilege of participating in another “Offerings” night – “Offerings 2”! This is a special opportunity for us to bring “a smile to God’s face” as we create for our Creator using the talents that he blessed us with.
“But I don’t really have any gifts,” you might say. “There’s nothing special about me.”
Exactly. There’s nothing inherently special about jars of clay – but there’s something immensely special about the treasure inside, which shows “that the surpassing power belongs to God and not to us” (2 Cor 4:7).
If you came to our “Offerings” last summer, you probably remember that it was different from any “talent show” you’ve been to. It wasn’t about showcasing talent and skill – it was about bringing God what you have, with all you have. That is what He deserves, and that is what He desires. Even the greatest talent in the world pales in comparison to the beauty of a simple act of love.
“Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty, God shines forth.” – Psalm 50:2
Now isn’t that something (or SomeOne) worth giving thanks for?
If you are interested in offering God a 5 minute long “sacrifice of thanksgiving” and/or want to know what exactly God is looking for, please read and meditate and pray over Psalm 50, which will be the theme of our upcoming offering night.
Then if God has put this on your heart, please let your small group leaders know by this Friday how you desire to bless His heart! 🙂 – Rebecca & Clara
